Delaware is an Atlantic Coast State bordered by New Jersey, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. It is very densely populated, but it ranks 45th for total population out of all the states.

Despite its small size, the state offers phlebotomists a number of employment opportunities. Healthcare is one of the largest industries, with 2,800 practicing physicians and a number of hospitals available to serve the community’s medical needs.

If you do not have a car or are unable to drive to work, there is a broad public transportation system that has been ranked one of the best in the country.

Dover is the largest city of Delaware. The average salary for phlebotomists in the city is $30,504.

Some Delaware phlebotomists even use the public transportation system to commute to nearby Philadelphia for phlebotomy technician jobs.

The largest cities in Delaware include Dover, Harrington, Newark, Milford, New Castle, and Wilmington. The annual salaries for a phlebotomist in these cities depend on the demand for phlebotomists and a number of other factors. An experienced phlebotomist who has completed a formal training program is likely to find employment more easily than someone who has not and needs to be trained on-the-job  to learn the skills necessary. Obviously, if you become a certified phlebotomist, your chances of getting hired improve drastically.

Dover is high in the phlebotomy pay scale with an annual, average salary of $30,504. Phlebotomists in Wilmington earn slightly more, with a median annual salary of $32,524.

Due to the state’s small size, there are not as many hospitals and medical centers as there are in larger states. In fact, the state has fewer than 20 hospitals to serve its residents and visitors. Phlebotomists might find employment opportunities at Alfred I. Dupont Hospital for Children, Milford Memorial Hospital, Kent General Hospital, Nemours Children’s Clinic, Saint Francis Hospital, or Wilmington Hospital.

If you are a donor phlebotomy technician and prefer to apply for employment at a blood bank, look for openings at Biomat USA, Christiana Care Blood Bank, Omega Medical Center, or Blood Bank of Delmarva.
