ASPT Application Requirements

The ASPT is not a certifying agency equal to the other phlebotomy certification agencies. The ASPT is more or less an association that offers its members discounted continuing education courses and the like. An individual does not have to become certified with the ASPT to become a member. However, those who do will receive a pin with the ASPT logo on it to wear as a demonstration of their accomplishment.
Each exam location has its own specific application that must be completed and then mailed to the address listed on it with the appropriate fees.
Phlebotomists who have graduated from one of the accredited educational programs or who have experience in the field are eligible to apply for the ASPT’s certification exam.
Candidates for certification through the ASPT need to complete the application and then submit it with the $85 fee prior to the designated deadline.
Each candidate is required to complete a profile that includes:
- The Candidate’s Name
- Telephone Number
- Social Security Number
- Employment Information
Candidates will also be asked to indicate whether they are currently nationally certified through any other certification agency. Prior to mailing the completed application to the ASPT, a supervisor must sign it.
Members are required to renew their certification. However, information concerning renewal is not available to visitors on their site.
An outline of the ASPT’s certification exam is not available on their site. However, it is anticipated that the ASPT certification exam resembles the certification tests offered by the ASCP, the AMT and the NCCT.
