The state of Washington offers many training programs for those interested in the field of phlebotomy. Phlebotomy students must have an in-depth understanding of the body’s physiology and anatomy.

Becoming Certified in Washington

As individuals transition from phlebotomy students to phlebotomy technicians, their well-deserved certificate, diploma or degree will allow them to practice their profession. As such, the state of Washington recognizes phlebotomists as professionals in the medical field. These professionals are not required to obtain a license in this state. They are, however, advised to obtain a phlebotomy certification from a credentialing agency as it increases their ability to obtain employment. These agencies include the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the National Phlebotomy Association or the American Medical Technologists.

Finding Schools in Washington

The state of Washington has many phlebotomy programs that prepare phlebotomy students. These training programs can range from a few weeks to two years in length. These programs include a certificate, diploma and an associate’s degree program. Programs that range from three to six weeks are usually certificate programs. Those that range from two to six months are usually programs that offer a phlebotomy diploma. Programs that last for 24 months are indicative of a degree program.

This college teaches students how to accurately collect and handle blood specimens. At this college, students are prepared for entry-level phlebotomy positions. Employment Opportunities in the State of Washington

There are many opportunities for phlebotomists to gain employment in the state of Washington. These professionals can easily gain employment in government laboratories, medical facilities and blood banks. The credentials required include national certification in addition to a standard credential. In all facilities, with the exception of blood banks, hiring officials accept these credentials. Those at blood banks require a donor certification as an additional document.
